This was a discussion that started over on the Cherry Crush thread and drifted a bit off topic, so I've decided to restart the discussion here.

Lesbian porn is absolutely my favorite genre (as the old cliche goes, there's just something about two pretty girls together), and based on some other names that I recognize (Hi, Buttons and ChoReb!), that's true of a few folks here. So a discussion of what's good in current lesbian porn is a worthwhile topic. Based on previous threads, I guess lesbian porn goes under "softcore websites" rather than hardcore, even though it's sex content. Also, I'm including many sites that have good lesbian content, but aren't 100% girl-girl in this discussion.

In terms of newly emerged sites, Virginkisses is probably my favorite. And I'm finding really good stuff on small channels on Faphouse and Pornhub as well. Polly Yangs/Erica Mori, who I like in general, has a couple of great lesbian videos on her own channel that are well worth checking out. ClubSweethearts is certainly a standby as well. And KarupsPC gets some very occasional high-quality teen lez videos, including a couple from Arete, who I see nowhere else, at least on video. Baberotica, OnlyTarts, and My18Teens too, but again, only occasional. (This one with Erica Mori and Alice Murkovski from My18Teens is knock-your-socks-off good, though, and worth the price of admission.) Beauty-Angels is another one for occasional teen lesbian videos, often with new videos but the same pairings that you see over on ClubSweethearts, however, they haven't had anything new in several months.

Otherwise, my preference is for producers who shoot for high filmmaking content and a lot of eroticism, and for me, the lesbian content on SexArt is probably top of the game, alongside VivThomas and the apparently-controversial Wow sites. I'm also finding really nice lesbian erotica occasionally on Dorcel Club, Slayed, and FrolicMe. (The Lena Andersen & Olivia Madison video on Slayed? It's *amazing*!)

On the other hand, some sites have changed for the worse - it's been ages since I've seen an attractive lady on Girls Out West, and they used to be one of my favorite sites. Not much new on Abby Winters, either. IFeelMyself still gets some stunning girls, but only occasionally do lesbian videos. Ersties gets some nice lesbian couples occasionally too. Lesbea has gone downhill since they merged into SexyHub, and they used to be one of the best. And I rarely see anything that good from A Girl Knows or Girls Only Porn anymore, either. XArt hasn't done a lesbian video for years and The Lesbian Experience seems to be dead too.

I was a member of ExCogigirls for a bit, especially because they have several videos with Lena Anderson (one of my favorites), but in the end, I'm really not fond of their filmmaking style, which is very amateurish, and they have an all-too-present cameraman. Reminds me a bit of the old Ed Powers videos, which have their moments, but more in spite of Ed than because of him. (According to Buttons, the ExCogigirls guy acknowledges the Ed Powers influence.) But I'll have to revisit ExCogigirls based on Buttons recommendation, because maybe their content has improved since I last was a member.

A little about my lesbian porn collecting career, the first lesbian porn I ever saw was in the movie Caligula produced by Penthouse, and Bob Guccione, me and a friend rented it as a VHS, had no idea there was a lesbian sex scene in that video, and it wasn't soft core like Penthouse magazine, it was shockingly erotic for the period, only about two and a half minutes long, it forever changed my life, but for the life of me, all through the 90's I could never find another lesbian scene with the intensity and eroticism of that two and a half minutes in Caligula, most porn through the 90's was produced by companies who only threw in a lez scene as a token in an otherwise hetero video, and because they primarily filmed hetero they made a mess attempting to film a lesbian scene, they had no idea of the erotic sensual potential of lesbian porn, for example there was almost no kissing, kissing is the bread and butter of lesbian sex, if you are a producer or director of lesbian porn, and you don't have any kissing, you may as well get a job with National Geographic and film animals fuck!

There were a few good scenes from that time but mostly, I'd say about 98 percent were terrible, and awful picture quality from VHS! Enter the early 00's, this is the golden era for me, finally a number of amateur studios began to pop up producing exceptional lesbian content and on DVD, gone was the dildo fest rampant in lesbian porn throughout the 90's, dildo use was so prevalent back then I made it my mission in life searching for lesbian video without them, some of the finest lesbian video ever produced is from the early 2000's, and hardly replicated until the early 10's when sites like Wowgirls arrived on the scene, and today Wowgirls and it's spin off's Ultra Films and Sensual Love produce the finest lesbian porn ever made, along with the exceptional recent upstarts Virgin Kisses and my newest favorite Excogigirls, this is just a quick summery, much more to add later.

Oh, and how can I forget Viv Thomas, been pretty consistently excellent the last two and a half decades!

That's funny you should bring up the scene in Caligula, because that's such a key one for me too. My first exposure to it was the Penthouse picture set of the famous scene from the film. This picture set is apparently not just stills from the film, but was a still photography shoot that was done on set during the shoot, and has a high eroticism of its own. It had a very potent effect on me as a teenager, needless to say. I'd had some exposure to lesbian photos before this, mostly sneaked looks at David Hamilton's books (once sold openly at mainstream bookstores!), some of which like Sisters included implied lesbianism between seriously cute teens. But the Caligula pics were probably the first explicit lesbian images I'd ever seen. It was a couple of years before I finally got to see the film, and while I loved the scene, I was disappointed in how short and interrupted it was.

A longer version of that scene with sound is like some kind of holy grail of lesbian porn that I speculate might be hiding in the Bob Guccione vaults if only someone would look for it! I say this, because, first, there's a "making of" Caligula short that includes a brief excerpt with the girls making sex noises, and second, because there's a reels and reels of unused footage shot for Caligula, some of which was recently used to put together a less sexually explicit reconstruction of the film about a year ago. What I wish is that the current owners of the Penthouse archives wouldn't be so narrowly focused on their prestige project, and put together a reconstruction of the full version of this sex scene, re-edited by some talented porn director like Andrej Lupin or someone like that. Dream on!

Yeah, same here! I remember back in the day despairing that if I wanted to see really beautiful women, beautifully filmed, I was only going to see that in softcore erotica like Emmanuelle or racy movie scenes in films like Henry and June, and that for explicit scenes, I'd just have to settle for what was out there in regular hardcore porn. It's nice to see that the gap has been bridged and that erotic sexually explicit porn became a thing. I just wish the trend in erotic mainstream films edging closer to porn scenes that culminated in Blue is the Warmest Color hadn't been effectively killed by the MeToo era!

Like you, I've been watching porn videos for decades, and I agree that it really took a while for lesbian porn to come up to its current standard. Most scenes from the 1980s were crap, but there was the occasional erotic scene that really stood out. But all of it had terrible resolution that resulted in the industry's switch from shooting on film to shooting on VHS. The early 2000s had some good stuff, but I'm not sure I'd call it a golden age quite yet. That said, lesbian porn was definitely picking up, and Abby Winters started doing some fantastic content (Girls on Film will forever be a classic!), there were some really good content on Club Seventeen and Sapphic Erotica, Nicole Scott & Kimberly Allure, one of my favorite pairs ever, were a thing, and Viv Thomas was on an upward trajectory.

But for me, the real "golden age" started around 2011 or 2012 and went for 5 years or so. That's when you had an influx of a group of absolutely amazing Czech girls matched with better video technology and directors who were up to the task. Between Viv Thomas, Sex Art, XArt, Lesbea, A Girl Knows, ClubSeventeen, Allfinegirls, and probably others I'm not thinking of, the amount of top-notch lesbian porn that would come out in a single week was hard to keep up with! Even American porn, which I often put down as being artless and animalistic, was taking a turn for the better with producers like The Lesbian Experience, Sweetheart Video, and Girlfriends Films. Aussie porn was on a roll too, though I think the torch had been passed from Abby Winters to GirlsOutWest and IFeelMyself. It was an amazingly productive era, and to this day I go back and thumb through Viv Thomas or Lesbea titles from that time and still find great ones I've never actually watched!

And it's not like there isn't excellent porn being produced right now, some of my favorites ever in fact, it's just not quite where it was 10 years ago, for whatever reason, and some companies that were once absolutely on top of their game seem to have lost their touch. I'm also a bit curious as to how the whole "Czech wave" happened and where it went. I mean, there have been Czech porn stars before and since the 2011-2016 years, but not nearly so many as during that time, and so many of them were utterly gorgeous and off-the-charts sex bombs! Today, of course, we have Maya Sinn, who's one of my favorite girls ever, but other than her, I can't think of any new Czech girls of any note in the lesbian erotica world in the last 5 years.

Back on the topic of older videos, something I've been reading about and I might want to try out is AI resolution enhancement, where it's apparently possible to enhance detail on older, low-resolution content. I'd really love to get Girls on Film or the old Nicole and Kimberly videos up to 1080p or more, needless to say, but right now, I don't have anything like a dedicated high-powered video editing PC and AI enhancement software to try this out. Building a PC like this (which is no harder than building one for gaming) is on my long-term to-do list, but I have yet to get serious about starting that project. (On my current laptop, I'd be lucky to be able to enhance 5 minutes of video if I ran the software all night, based on having attempted this before with free trial software.)

So you were first on the internet in 1999? I have you beat by a few years, because I was first on in 1993. And my initial access was only to Usenet, which was text only, and if you wanted a single porn pic from one of the porn newsgroups, you had to download long strings of text from multiple posts and then use an app to assemble it into an image! If you were really patient, you could download a ton of posts and get a short, low-rez video.

But porn started to take off after the web became a thing, but it was all still images at first. Video was still a thing you could really only get in hard copy and the internet was really most useful for exchanging information on what was out there. The Lezlove discussion group started out as an email list via Yahoo groups before it became a web forum, and I forget exactly what year it was that I found it. But I remember finding Thursday Night Video, Magic Moments, and like "collector's" videos that you wouldn't find even at a well-stocked brick-and-mortar porn video shop. TNV's Miranda and Alicia kissing video was a real find, as those girls, especially Miranda, reminded me a lot of the kind of girls I liked in real life, girls I'd see around my Uni, and the kind of girls I just wasn't seeing in the mainstream porn of that time. Though, frustratingly, the video never went beyond nude passionate kissing.
